Homebound Services

WHAT IS IT?

Books, Books-on-Tape or CD, CD’s, DVD’s and videos delivered to patrons in Desoto, Tate, Panola, Lafayette, Tunica and Coahoma Counties who cannot get to a library building because of illness, disability or lack of transportation.  Caregivers are also eligible.

Books-By-Mail is a joint project of the First Regional Library and the Carnegie Library of Clarksdale and Coahoma County funded by a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant awarded by the Mississippi Library Commission.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Registered patrons of the First Regional Library System or the Carnegie Library of Clarksdale & Coahoma County may request materials by title, subject, or type of material by calling 1-800-842-7820 and asking for the Books by Mail Department..  In addition to sending requested titles or books on a subject, the staff will also select materials for the patron based on expressed preferences (mysteries, romance, westerns, etc.).  Hours of service:  Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  After-hours, requests may be left on the answering machine.

The service is free.  To return the materials, patrons just reverse the address label which contains the return postage, secure the bag with the enclosed plastic tie and mail the bag.  Patrons can also return materials to any branch of the First Regional Library or the Carnegie Library of Clarksdale and Coahoma County.

HOW DO I REGISTER?

Call the First Regional Library at 1-800-842-7820 and ask for Books-by-Mail.  If you now have a library card from either library, you may provide information on reading preferences and begin using the system immediately.  If you do not currently have a library card from either system, you will be sent a brochure with the Books-By-Mail application.  All patrons of the Books-By-Mail service will be issued a Dancing Rabbit Library Card that will allow them to obtain books from either library.

HOW MANY ITEMS CAN I CHECK OUT AT ONE TIME?

You may check out four items at one time, and keep those items for 30 days.  You will receive overdue notices on anything not returned on time, but no fines will be charged. However, bills will be issued for lost materials.
