Between the Lions
First Regional Library is proud to participate in MPB's Preschool Literacy Project, Between the Lions. The research-based curriculum, fun-filled video clips, and quality children's literature are being used in classrooms and libraries around Mississippi to encourage young children to "GET WILD ABOUT READING!"
Born to Read
In 2001, with funding from the Assisi Foundation of Memphis, First Regional Library began “Born to Read with Reggie,” a program which shares the importance of reading to newborn babies with new mothers. Each canvas “Born to Read” bag contains a board book, pamphlets about early literacy and the library, and a baby t-shirt. The newborn bags are distributed through local health care professionals, including health departments and doctors’ offices.
Health & Nutrition
The Early Childhood Resource Center is proud to take part in the Community Foundation’s Get a Life! initiative to help encourage healthy eating and active lifestyles for the young children of northwest Mississippi.
Motheread® is a nationally recognized family literacy program,
which encourages parents to use well-loved children’s literature to foster a love of reading in their children as well as to improve their own literacy skills. The Tunica Motheread/Fatheread program is a partnership between the library and the Tunica County Literacy Council and its success has resulted from collaboration with various other community agencies and civic organizations in Tunica County. In 6 years, over 75 participants have ‘completed’ the program by attending 8 or more sessions.
